At 6 months old Kian now weighs 17 lbs and is 27 1/2 inches tall. This puts her in the 72nd percentile for her weight and the 96th percentile for her height. At the 6 month check-up, Kian got 3 shots and one oral vaccination. The doctor said that she is on target developmentally.
Kian still does not like to roll over but she does a lot of side roll overs…from her back or front to one side, especially if she wants something that she just can quite reach.
Kian is doing really well with sitting up and we think she will be able to do it all on her own very soon. Right now she can do it for a couple of minutes at a time when we position her properly.
New foods added to the yummy list: Bananas, Peaches, and Squash. There are none to add to the disgusting list; however, she was not fond of oatmeal either. Green Beans still reign supreme on the yummy list. Kian has a good time chewing on baby toast and only makes a little mess (see below). She also loves chewing on slices of apple. The apple slice feels really good on her two new teeth. Her two front bottom teeth are visible and are used on everything.
We talked to the doctor again in regards to all of Kian’s medications and the doctor suggested instead of taking her off any of them, to just reduce the dosage and see how she responds. We will keep you updated on how it goes.
Kian is very talkative now although it is mostly just coos and babbles. Kian talks to her toys, to her family, to the kitties and she especially loves to talk to and laugh at people in Wal*Mart. Kian has also spoken her first word, she said ‘mama’ and especially uses this when she is upset and she just repeats ‘mama mama mama’. Kian has also learned to get our attention when she wants something, she will point to it and say ‘ahh’.
We have a big accomplishment from Mommy to report. Kian is now sleeping in her own play-yard bed. Mommy has finally let the baby out of Mommy and Daddy’s bed. Her play-yard is in our bedroom as she still gets up to eat in the middle of the night, but she is no longer in our bed.
As some of you already know, Kian is going to have a big challenge ahead in that her big sister, Skyla is going to Japan for six weeks this summer. Living without sister for 6 weeks will be hard on everyone, especially Kian. However, we are very excited for big sister Skyla and hope she has a wonderful time.
